Press Release from Dust
Dust opens Saturday 7th March at 3pm at Garter Lane Gallery, O'Connell Street, Waterford.
Exhibition runs until Saturday 25th April 2009.
Opening Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 5.30pm.
Dust is an exhibition of new paintings by Tom Climent. The artworks have strong architectural features and many contain images of churches. Climent began the series while on a residency at Cill Rialaig artist’s retreat in Co. Kerry. These works mark a new development in his work and were completed over a 12 month period.
His works are painterly and show a depth of knowledge of the material. The artworks are abstract in sensibility and are executed in rich shades and earthy tones contrasting with vivid sweeps of vibrant colour. His surfaces are well worked and rich in texture.
Brian Fallon has written about Climent’s work saying “ They speak the language of paint and not the language of hackneyed association”.
Dust follows on from Climent’s successful show at the Hunt Museum in Limerick in 2008. It is his first time exhibiting in the South East. The artworks featured vary in scale from larger works measuring 8’x 6’ to smaller pieces 1’ square.
Climent’s previous exhibitions include Between Chance and Rhyme at the Hunt Museum, Hansels House at the Kevin Kavanagh Gallery, New Paintings at the Fenton Gallery and Pure at the Temple Bar Gallery and Studios.
Awards include the Tony O’ Malley award and Victor Treacey award. His work is in the collections of UCC , The OPW , CIT , AIB Bank, NCB Stockbrokers and private collections in Ireland, Spain, UK and USA.
